My sugestion is using raspbian (or other os) and instaling a Kodi 18 nightly build (mainstream will not work). This would need more work than simply installing OSMC but you should have no Kodi 18 changes some of the Python code requirements for the search function, making it so that any addon not properly updated to match I have a Google Pixelbook 8Gb/256Gb. Kodi 18.6, has been stable, using Hardware Acceleration, no issues.
